Draft Survey Services

A draft survey is the most widely used and cost-effective method for determining the weight of bulk cargo loaded or discharged from a vessel. By measuring the vessel's displacement before and after cargo operations and applying appropriate corrections, our surveyors calculate the exact weight of cargo transferred. This method is internationally recognized and accepted by traders, charterers, and commodity exchanges.

How We Conduct Draft Surveys

Our surveyors read the vessel's draft marks at six points (forward, midship, and aft on both port and starboard sides) before and after cargo operations. We then apply corrections for ballast water changes, fresh water, bunkers consumed, and any other weight changes during the operation. Using the vessel's hydrostatic tables and verified trim and stability data, we calculate the net cargo weight with high precision.

All measurements are taken in the presence of the vessel's officers, and every reading is documented and countersigned. Our reports follow international standards and are prepared for use in commercial settlements.

Applications

Draft surveys are essential for bulk cargo operations including coal, grain, ore, cement, fertilizers, and other dry bulk commodities. They serve as the primary method for cargo weight determination at ports where shore scales are unavailable or unreliable.
